Spitfire

Spitfire (Tashunka's Spitfire)

Spitfire was born in the wild in Murderer’s Creek, Oregon. As a colt, he was gathered from the wild and assigned to R-A for the 2014 Extreme Mustang Makeover, a competition in which participants have approximately 100 days to gentle and train an untouched mustang. Spitfire was sold in the auction following the competition, but later got to come back to Tashunka! He has lived here ever since, often sharing a pasture with a donkey or two. For the last several years, Spitfire has been learning dressage, extreme trail, and more! His favorite activities are eating, eating, eating, and napping in the sun.

Murderer's Creek Herd Management Area

The Murders Creek HMA is in Oregon southwest of John Day.  It is one of the few HMAs that is heavily wooded and quite mountainous.  The Murders Creek horses are rumored to live in small bands when in the wild, instead of large bands with multiple families.  When adopted, Murderers Creek horses have the reputation for creating strong bonds with their adopters.
