Leasing

Owning a horse is a huge commitment of time and money. Leasing a horse before purchasing one prepares for that responsibilty.

Leases are offered year round at Tashunka, with a focus on horsemanship exposure, independence, and responsibility. Horses are available and offer an excellent opportunity to learn about owning one. All tack and supplies are provided, but participants are responsible for care and maintenance.

Riders are scheduled on specific days and are responsible for tasks including catching, brushing, tacking, warming up, riding, cooling down, un-tacking, grooming, vetting, graining, and putting the horse away. This program is a perfect stepping stone for families considering making a purchase. Lease participants are required to be involved in a regular lesson program. The frequency of lessons is dependent on the horse and rider. Personal rates apply if the lessor has a lesson on their regular scheduled lease day. There is no hidden cost to the lease, except in the case of negligence.
